Gastric Balloon
It is a method that can be preferred in patients who do not have enough weight to require surgery, who have anesthesia concerns, or who are very overweight for obesity surgery and who want to lose some weight and make it operable. It is a procedure that is performed endoscopically, without any surgical intervention. A balloon placed in the stomach creates a feeling of fullness in the patient. There are those that are inflated with air or water, 6-month or one-year-old. The procedure takes an average of 20 minutes and ends in an hour with rest. The patient can immediately return to their daily lives.
This procedure does not require anesthesia and a balloon is placed in the stomach with endoscopy under light sedation. The balloon is inflated to around 400-700 cc. There may be some pain and nausea at first. The patient should continue dieting and exercising as long as the balloon is attached, and should continue doing so when the balloon is removed, otherwise they may regain the weight they have lost. The gastric balloon is removed endoscopically at the end of the 6th month.
